ARTvaark offers art activities to people with special challenges
ARTvaark was founded by Shari Fleischman with a heartfelt mission: to bring meaningful, barrier-free art experiences to individuals whose physical, cognitive, or economic challenges might otherwise limit their access to creative expression. Through engaging and accessible art activities, ARTvaark empowers participants of all abilities to discover joy, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment through the creative process.
The organization serves a wide range of populations, including individuals living with dementia, seniors with cognitive or physical limitations, and economically disadvantaged communities. Every program is thoughtfully designed to meet participants where they are, creating an environment where everyone can experience the therapeutic benefits of art.
“ARTvaark offers fun, challenging, and accessible art activities that encourage individuals to reach beyond their limitations,” says Shari.
After moving to Riverside to work in senior government housing, Shari combined her background in Fine Arts with her degree in Therapeutic Recreation to make art an essential part of enriching the lives of older adults—particularly those living with dementia. For many years, she has witnessed firsthand how creative expression can foster connection, spark memories, and bring moments of joy to individuals facing significant life challenges.
“In my own search for personal peace and satisfaction, I rediscovered my love for painting and have been able to use my talents to reach out to others,” Shari shares.
